Dilations & Similar Triangles
6 lessons, about 15 days with the quiz, review and test, in one download: Dilations, Dilations: Scale Factor and Center, Similarity Transformations, Parallel Lines & Transversals, Triangle Sum & Exterior Angle Theorems, Similar Figures & Similar Triangles.
6 lessons, in teaching order
Built to 8.G.A.3, 8.G.A.4, 8.G.A.5. Each lesson has guided notes, practice, an exit ticket, a homework page, worked answer keys and a click-by-click Teacher Deck.
- Lesson 1 Dilations I can dilate points and figures from the origin with the rule (x, y) → (kx, ky), tell an enlargement from a reduction, find the scale factor from a point and its image, and explain why the image is not congruent unless k = 1.
- Lesson 2 Dilations: Scale Factor and Center I can dilate points and figures about any center by counting the steps from the center and multiplying them by k, and work back to find k or the center.
- Lesson 3 Similarity Transformations I can show two figures are similar by describing a sequence of rigid transformations and dilations that maps one onto the other, find the scale factor from matching sides, and explain why the image is congruent only when k = 1.
- Lesson 4 Parallel Lines & Transversals I can name corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior and same-side interior angles, use the fact that parallel lines make them equal or add to 180°, and write and solve an equation for an unknown angle.
- Lesson 5 Triangle Sum & Exterior Angle Theorems I can explain why the angles of a triangle add to 180°, find a missing angle, use an exterior angle and its two remote interior angles, and write and solve equations for unknown angles.
- Lesson 6 Similar Figures & Similar Triangles I can decide whether figures are similar, show that two triangles are similar with two pairs of equal angles, and set up and solve proportions for missing sides, including heights found from shadows.
