10 lessons, about 22 days with the quiz, review and test, in one download: Explaining the Pythagorean Theorem, Pythagorean Theorem, Pythagorean Theorem Word Problems, The Pythagorean Theorem in 3D, Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem, Distance on the Coordinate Plane, Volume of Cylinders, Volume of Cones, Volume of Spheres, Volume of Cylinders, Cones & Spheres.
10 lessons, in teaching order
Built to 8.G.B.6, 8.G.B.7, 8.G.B.8, 8.G.C.9. Each lesson has guided notes, practice, an exit ticket, a homework page, worked answer keys and a click-by-click Teacher Deck.
- Lesson 1 Explaining the Pythagorean Theorem I can find the area of each square on the sides of a right triangle, including a tilted square on a grid (a box minus four triangles), and show that the two smaller areas add up to the largest.
- Lesson 2 Pythagorean Theorem I can use the Pythagorean theorem to find a missing hypotenuse or leg of a right triangle, in a picture or a word problem, and give the answer exact or rounded as asked.
- Lesson 3 Pythagorean Theorem Word Problems I can turn a story about a ladder, a ramp, a screen or a path into a right triangle, find which length is c, solve with a² + b² = c², and round as the story asks.
- Lesson 4 The Pythagorean Theorem in 3D I can find the diagonal of a box l by w by h in two steps, across the floor with d² = l² + w², then to the far top corner with D² = d² + h², exact or to the place asked.
- Lesson 5 Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem I can use the converse of the Pythagorean theorem to decide whether three lengths form a right triangle, testing the longest side as c, and tell an acute triangle from an obtuse one.
- Lesson 6 Distance on the Coordinate Plane I can find the distance between two points on the coordinate plane by drawing a right triangle, finding its legs from the coordinates, and using the Pythagorean theorem, exact or rounded as asked.
- Lesson 7 Volume of Cylinders I can find the volume of a cylinder with V = πr²h, the base area times the height, leaving π in the answer or using 3.14 and rounding as asked.
- Lesson 8 Volume of Cones I can find the volume of a cone with V = 1/3 × πr²h, using the straight-up height h and not the slant height, leaving π in the answer or using 3.14 and rounding as asked.
- Lesson 9 Volume of Spheres I can find the volume of a sphere with V = 4/3 × πr³ and of a hemisphere, leaving π in the answer or using 3.14 and rounding as asked.
- Lesson 10 Volume of Cylinders, Cones & Spheres I can find the volume of a cylinder, a cone and a sphere with V = πr²h, V = 1/3 × πr²h and V = 4/3 × πr³, using 3.14 for π or leaving π in the answer.
