The lessons

6 lessons, in teaching order

Built to 7.SP.A.1, 7.SP.A.2, 7.SP.B.3, 7.SP.B.4. Each lesson has guided notes, practice, an exit ticket, a homework page, worked answer keys and a click-by-click Teacher Deck.

  1. Lesson 1 Random Sampling 7.SP.A.1 · 2 days I can name a study's population and sample, tell a random sample from a biased one with a reason, and decide when a conclusion about the whole population is valid.
  2. Lesson 2 Inferences from Random Samples 7.SP.A.2 · 2 days I can find a random sample's proportion, use it to estimate a count in the population, and explain why other random samples give slightly different estimates.
  3. Lesson 3 Predictions from Samples 7.SP.A.2 · 2 days I can find how many times as big the population is as a random sample, multiply the sample's count by that same factor to predict a count, and use repeated samples to judge which predictions to trust.
  4. Lesson 4 Comparing Populations Informally 7.SP.B.3 · 2 days I can compare two data sets with similar variability on one scale: find how many MADs apart their means are, and tell which pair of dot plots overlaps more.
  5. Lesson 5 Comparing Populations Numerically 7.SP.B.4 · 2 days I can find the mean or median and the MAD or IQR of random samples from two populations, and use them to say which population tends to be greater and which is more consistent.
  6. Lesson 6 Comparing Box Plots 7.SP.B.4 · 2 days I can read two box plots drawn on one common scale, compare their median lines to say which group tends to be greater and their box widths (IQRs) to say which is more consistent, and tell how far apart the centers are.
