The result of division. In -18 ÷ 3, the dividend is -18, the divisor is 3, and the quotient is -6. Apply the sign rules.

Examples

  • -18 ÷ 3 = -6 (different signs, negative).
  • -18 ÷ (-3) = 6 (same signs, positive).

Key rule

Same signs give a positive quotient; different signs give a negative quotient.
