Area, Surface Area & Volume
9 lessons, about 20 days with the quiz, review and test, in one download: Area of Parallelograms, Area of Triangles, Area of Polygons, Quadrilaterals on the Coordinate Plane, Polygons on the Coordinate Plane, Nets & Surface Area, Surface Area Word Problems, Volume with Fractional Edge Lengths, Volume Word Problems.
9 lessons, in teaching order
Built to 6.G.A.1, 6.G.A.3, 6.G.A.4, 6.G.A.2. Each lesson has guided notes, practice, an exit ticket, a homework page, worked answer keys and a click-by-click Teacher Deck.
- Lesson 1 Area of Parallelograms I can find the area of a parallelogram as base × height, using the height that meets the chosen base at a right angle (even outside the shape), and find a missing base or height from the area.
- Lesson 2 Area of Triangles I can find the area of any triangle as half of base × height, using the height that meets the chosen base at a right angle (inside, along a side or outside the triangle), and find a missing base or height from the area.
- Lesson 3 Area of Polygons I can find the area of right triangles, other triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids and other polygons by cutting them into rectangles and triangles, or by fitting them inside a rectangle.
- Lesson 4 Quadrilaterals on the Coordinate Plane I can draw a quadrilateral on the coordinate plane from its vertices, use the coordinates to find the length of each side on a grid line, name the quadrilateral, and find its perimeter and area.
- Lesson 5 Polygons on the Coordinate Plane I can draw triangles and other polygons on the coordinate plane from their vertices, find a missing vertex, measure the sides that lie on grid lines, and find an area by cutting a polygon into rectangles and right triangles.
- Lesson 6 Nets & Surface Area I can represent a right rectangular prism with its net and use the net to find the prism's surface area.
- Lesson 7 Surface Area Word Problems I can solve real-world surface area problems by deciding which faces of a box the job covers (a closed box, no lid, walls only), adding just those face areas, and answering in square units or in dollars.
- Lesson 8 Volume with Fractional Edge Lengths I can find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fraction edge lengths by packing it with unit-fraction cubes, and show that multiplying the edge lengths, V = l × w × h, gives the same volume.
- Lesson 9 Volume Word Problems I can solve real-world volume problems with rectangular prisms: multiply length × width × the height the story fills (a water depth, not the tank's height), then answer the question asked (bags, loads, cost, depth or rise).
