Ratios, Rates & Unit Rate
9 lessons, about 22 days with the quiz, review and test, in one download: Understanding Ratios, Ratio Tape Diagrams, Equivalent Ratios & Ratio Tables, Double Number Lines, Graphing Ratios, Unit Rate Concept, Comparing Ratios, Unit Price and Constant Speed, Ratio Reasoning Application.
9 lessons, in teaching order
Built to 6.RP.A.1, 6.RP.A.3, 6.RP.A.3a, 6.RP.A.2, 6.RP.A.3b. Each lesson has guided notes, practice, an exit ticket, a homework page, worked answer keys and a click-by-click Teacher Deck.
- Lesson 1 Understanding Ratios I can write part-to-part and part-to-whole ratios in the right order and describe them with ratio language.
- Lesson 2 Ratio Tape Diagrams I can draw tape diagrams for a ratio, find what one part is worth from a total, an amount or a difference, and use it to find any amount the question asks for.
- Lesson 3 Equivalent Ratios & Ratio Tables I can complete ratio tables of equivalent ratios by multiplying or dividing both numbers by the same number, going through the 1 column, or adding two columns, and tell whether two ratios are equivalent.
- Lesson 4 Double Number Lines I can draw double number lines that start at 0 together and step by equal spaces, split a space into equal parts on both lines, and read a missing amount at the matching mark.
- Lesson 5 Graphing Ratios I can write the pairs of equivalent ratios as points with the across quantity first, plot them on a straight line that starts at (0, 0), and read new pairs from the line.
- Lesson 6 Unit Rate Concept I can find the unit rate for a ratio, describe it with rate language such as “per”, and use unit rates to compare.
- Lesson 7 Comparing Ratios I can compare two ratios by scaling both so one amount is the same, or by dividing each down to 1 of the same amount, then comparing the other amount, never the differences.
- Lesson 8 Unit Price and Constant Speed I can find unit prices to choose the better buy and find a saving or a cost, and use a constant speed to find a distance (speed × time) or a time (distance ÷ speed).
- Lesson 9 Ratio Reasoning Application I can use ratio tables, scale factors and percents to find missing amounts and convert units.
