10 lessons, in teaching order

Built to 6.EE.A.1, 6.EE.A.2c, 6.EE.A.2b, 6.EE.A.2a, 6.EE.A.3, 6.EE.A.4, 6.NS.B.4, 6.EE.B.6. Each lesson has guided notes, practice, an exit ticket, a homework page, worked answer keys and a click-by-click Teacher Deck.

  1. Lesson 1 Exponents 6.EE.A.1 · 2 days I can write repeated multiplication with an exponent, and write and evaluate numerical expressions with whole-number exponents.
  2. Lesson 2 Order of Operations Free on TPT 6.EE.A.1, 6.EE.A.2c · 2 days I can evaluate expressions with whole-number exponents and grouping symbols by doing the operations in the right order.
  3. Lesson 3 Identifying Parts of an Expression 6.EE.A.2b · 1 day I can name the parts of an expression with the words term, factor, product, sum, quotient, coefficient and constant, and see a group in parentheses as one quantity.
  4. Lesson 4 Writing Algebraic Expressions 6.EE.A.2a · 2 days I can write expressions that record operations with numbers and with letters standing for numbers, keeping the order right for subtraction and division.
  5. Lesson 5 Evaluating Expressions 6.EE.A.2c · 2 days I can evaluate expressions and real-world formulas for given values of their letters, doing the operations in the conventional order.
  6. Lesson 6 Combining Like Terms 6.EE.A.3, 6.EE.A.4 · 2 days I can identify like terms and combine them to write a simpler equivalent expression, then check that the two expressions agree by putting in a number.
  7. Lesson 7 Distributive Property 6.EE.A.3 · 2 days I can apply the distributive property to expand a product into a sum, and to factor a sum using the greatest common factor, writing equivalent expressions.
  8. Lesson 8 Factoring Expressions with the GCF 6.NS.B.4, 6.EE.A.3 · 1 day I can write a sum such as 28 + 63 or 10x + 14 as the GCF times a sum, divide every term by the GCF, and check by multiplying back.
  9. Lesson 9 Identifying Equivalent Expressions 6.EE.A.3, 6.EE.A.4 · 2 days I can identify when two expressions are equivalent by rewriting one with the properties of operations, and show that two expressions are not equivalent with one value that gives different results.
  10. Lesson 10 Expressions from Word Problems 6.EE.B.6 · 2 days I can say what a letter stands for in a story, act the story out with a sample number, and write an expression that does what the story does, reading comparisons for who has more.
