Definition

An equation requiring two inverse operations to isolate the variable. Undo addition/subtraction first, then multiplication/division.

Examples

  • 2x + 3 = 11 → subtract 3 → 2x = 8 → divide by 2 → x = 4.
  • Whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other side.
