Scatter Plot

8.SP.A.1

Definition

A graph of paired numerical data in which each point represents one observation. It is used to reveal relationships, trends, or clusters between two variables.

Examples

  • Each dot is one data pair (hours studied, test score).
  • As hours go up, scores tend to go up — a positive trend.

Key rule

Look at the cloud of points as a whole — its shape and direction tell the story.

Memory hook

Paired data, shown as points, to reveal a pattern.
