Linear Model
8.SP.A.3
Definition
An equation of a straight line used to describe the relationship in a data set and to make predictions. Its slope and intercept are interpreted in real-world context.
Examples
- y = 8x + 50: predict for 5 hours → y = 8(5)+50 = 90 points.
- Slope 8 means each hour adds about 8 points; intercept 50 is the predicted score with 0 hours.
Key rule
Use the linear model to describe the trend and predict new outputs.
Memory hook
An equation that describes the data's trend.
