Zeros (Roots)
Algebra 1 · Quadratic Functions
Definition
Zeros, or roots, are the x-values where a function equals zero, shown as x-intercepts on a graph.
Examples
- y = x^2 - 9 has zeros at x = 3 and x = -3.
- The zeros are where the graph crosses the x-axis.
Key rule
Set the function equal to zero and solve for x.
Memory hook
Zeros = where the graph hits the x-axis.
