Definition

V = one third B h, one third the base area times the height.

Examples

  • A pyramid with base area 12 and height 9 has volume one third (12)(9) = 36 cubic units.
  • A pyramid with the same base and height as a prism has exactly one third its volume.

Key rule

A pyramid's volume is always one third of a prism with the same base and height.
