Volume of a Cone
HSG-GMD.A.3
Definition
V = one third pi r squared h, one third the cylinder of the same base and height.
Examples
- A cone with the same base and height as a cylinder has exactly one third its volume.
- A cone with radius 3 and height 6 has volume one third pi(3 squared)(6) = 18 pi cubic units.
Key rule
A cone's volume is always one third of a cylinder with the same base and height.
Memory hook
One third of a matching cylinder.
