Standard Form
8.EE.A.3
Definition
A number written out in full with all of its digits and place values, as opposed to scientific notation. Also called ordinary or expanded numeric form.
Examples
- 3.6 × 10⁵ in standard form is 360,000.
- 7.2 × 10⁻³ in standard form is 0.0072.
Key rule
A positive exponent moves the decimal right (bigger); a negative exponent moves it left (smaller).
