Definition
A ratio comparing the dimensions of a drawing to the actual dimensions of the object. Used in maps, blueprints, and models. Written as 1:n or '1 unit = n units.'
Examples
- Map scale 1 cm = 5 miles: 3 cm on the map = 15 miles in reality.
- Blueprint scale 1 inch = 8 feet: 4 inches on paper = 32 feet in the actual room.

Map distance × scale = actual distance.
