Definition

A three-dimensional solid with two identical, parallel polygonal bases connected by rectangular lateral faces. Named by the shape of the base.

Examples

  • A rectangular prism has 2 bases + 4 lateral faces = 6 faces total.
  • A triangular prism has triangular bases; a hexagonal prism has hexagonal bases.

Name a prism by the shape of its base.
