Parallel Lines
8.EE.C.8a
Definition
Lines in the same plane with equal slopes that never intersect. A system made of parallel lines has no solution.
Examples
- y=2x+1 and y=2x+4 have the same slope (2) but different y-intercepts.
- If solving the system gives a false statement, the lines are parallel.
Key rule
Parallel lines have the same slope but different y-intercepts.
Memory hook
Same slope, different starting point, never meet.
