5.NF.B.6

Definition

To multiply mixed numbers, convert to improper fractions, multiply numerators and denominators, then simplify.

  • 1 3/4 x 2 = 7/4 x 2 = 14/4 = 3 1/2.

Key rule

Change mixed numbers to improper fractions first, then multiply.
