Equivalent Expressions

6.EE.A.4

Definition

Expressions that always have the same value no matter what number the variable is.

Examples

  • 2(x + 3) = 2x + 6 — same value for every x.
  • At x = 4: 2(4+3) = 14 and 2(4)+6 = 14 — they match.

Key rule

Equivalent expressions give the same result for every value of the variable.

Memory hook

Different form, same value, always.
