Algebra 1 · Linear Functions
y-Intercept
Algebra 1 · Linear Functions
Definition
The y-intercept is the point where a graph crosses the y-axis, where x = 0.
Examples
- The line y = 2x + 3 crosses the y-axis at (0, 3).
- For y = -x + 5, the y-intercept is (0, 5).
Key rule
At the y-intercept the x-coordinate is always 0.
Memory hook
y-intercept: cross the y-axis, x is 0.
