Slope
Algebra 1 · Linear Functions
Definition
Slope is the steepness of a line, found as rise over run, or the change in y over the change in x.
Examples
- From (0,1) to (2,5), slope = 4/2 = 2.
- A horizontal line has slope 0.
Key rule
slope = rise/run = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1).
Memory hook
Slope = rise over run.
