OR (Union)

Algebra 1 · Inequalities

Definition

OR (union) is a compound inequality true wherever either of the two inequalities is satisfied.

Examples

  • x < 1 OR x > 5 covers both ends.
  • x <= -2 OR x >= 3 covers the outside.

Key rule

The solution includes every value that satisfies at least one part.

Memory hook

OR = either one counts; both regions are in.
