Initial Value
8.F.A.2
Definition
The output of a function when the input is zero, representing the starting amount. It equals the y-intercept of a linear function.
Examples
- In f(x) = 10x + 20, the initial value is 20 (the cost before any months).
- It's the same as the y-value when x = 0 in a table, or the y-intercept on a graph.
Key rule
The initial value is the same as the y-intercept, b.
