Definition
To decide which decimal is greater or less by comparing place values from left to right.
Examples
- 0.07 is greater than 0.02 because 7 hundredths is more than 2 hundredths.
- 0.5 is greater than 0.48 because 5 tenths beats 4 tenths.
Key rule
Line up the decimal points, then compare matching places left to right.
