Chord

HSG-C.A.2

Definition

A segment with both endpoints on a circle; the diameter is the longest chord.

Examples

  • Any segment connecting two points on the circle's edge is a chord.
  • A diameter is a special chord that passes through the center.

Key rule

Every diameter is a chord, but not every chord is a diameter.

Memory hook

Endpoints on the circle — the diameter is just the longest one.
